Amar Shergill is an experienced trial lawyer practicing in personal injury and wrongful death with a significant pro bono practice assisting non-profits and representing victims of hate crimes. He was the founding President of the South Asian Bar Association of Sacramento, received the Cornerstone Award from the National Association of South Asian Bar Associations, and the Community Leader Award from the SABA-Northern California Foundation. Amar is the President-elect of the Capitol City Trial Lawyers Association and a member of the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates.

Amar complements his legal practice with community service and political projects. He is a longtime Board Member of Gurdwara Sahib West Sacramento, former Executive Board Member of the California Democratic Party, and Chair Emeritus of the Progressive Caucus, the largest organization within the Party. Amar is often quoted in national media as a leading voice of the Progressive movement in California. In 2015, he wrote California Assembly & Senate Resolution 34, the first major governmental resolution in the world which recognized the culpability of the government of India in the November 1984 Genocide of Sikhs, passed unanimously. He has also helped lead legislative efforts in California to ban discrimination in the workplace based on religious clothing and caste.
