Navi Kahlon is a Commissioner on the Environmental Sustainability Commission for the City of Tracy, where she works to promote sustainable and equitable environmental practices at the local government level. In her role, she advises on city policies related to clean energy, waste reduction, and community climate resilience—ensuring that underrepresented voices and environmental justice principles remain central to policy conversations.
Previously, Navi served as a Trustee for the Tracy Unified School District Board of Education, where she focused on equity in education, mental health access, and increasing student voice in district decision-making. As a first-generation American woman of Punjabi Sikh heritage and a proud product of public schools, Navi brings a deeply personal commitment to inclusive leadership and public service.
Navi’s community work spans over a decade and includes board leadership with local nonprofits such as the Tracy Community Connection Center, which supports unhoused and at-risk families, and Tracy D.A.R.E., which delivers drug and alcohol abuse prevention education to local youth. She has also volunteered with organizations including United Sikhs, Brighter Christmas, and Jakara Movement. She remains a passionate advocate for youth empowerment, labor rights, and culturally responsive education.
Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Leadership with a focus on Organizational Learning and Innovation, Navi is exploring ways to merge her academic work with real-world impact—particularly in spaces that support student leadership, Sikh youth identity, and civic engagement.
Navi was honored to be invited to join the Sikh Coalition’s Sikh Speakers Network, where she shares her lived experiences and professional insights to inspire the next generation of Sikh changemakers.
