Ravjit “Ruby” Sekhon is a licensed clinical social worker, supervisor, and trauma-informed mental health leader shaped by her identity as the daughter of Sikh immigrants. With over 20 years in social services and 14 years in supervisory roles, she brings a culturally grounded, justice-focused lens to healing, education, and community care.
Ruby earned her MSW from Rutgers School of Social Work and holds licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) in New Jersey. She began her career working as a community-based case manager supporting high-risk youth and families, laying the foundation for her lifelong commitment to advocacy and trauma-informed care.
Where Ruby began her career, she gained experience across many systems of care in both children’s and adults’ arenas. Currently, she balances two primary roles: Founder and Psychotherapist of Daya Wellness, where she provides therapy focused on culturally responsive care for South Asian and BIPOC clients, and Director for NJ4S Middlesex County, Rutgers University Behavioral Healthcare; a statewide early intervention and prevention initiative under the New Jersey Department of Children and Families serving over 25 school districts. As the inaugural director, she reviewed and selected evidence-based curricula to be implemented and offered across all public and charter schools in the county. She also leads trauma-informed programs, supervises crisis response systems, and trains educators, families, and clinicians on mental wellness and resilience.
Ruby is trained in many treatment modalities and serves as a community facilitator on a wide range of topics. She is also a trained Disaster Response Crisis Counselor and lead responder for the Traumatic Loss Coalition, bringing expertise in crisis intervention and community healing. She has a strong passion for clinical supervision, supporting new and seasoned therapists, undergraduate, graduate and doctoral interns; to provide ethical, educational and effective guidance.
As a mentor and educator, Ruby facilitates workshops on identity, intergenerational healing, and navigating cultural pressures. Her approach is warm, community-centered, and rooted in both clinical expertise and lived experience navigating bicultural identity.
Ruby is an elected Delegate Assembly member for the National Association of Social Workers, New Jersey Division, where she reviews policies and bylaws to advocate for the profession and social justice.
