Sharan Kaur Singh is an active leader of the Sikh and interfaith community. She has a strong background in non-profit and corporate leadership and is an experienced learning and development professional. Sharan advocates for the Sikh community, empowers marginalized communities to raise their issues and voices, counters extremism/hate groups to protect democracy and works to ensure a just, secure and inclusive society for all.  She has extensive experience in public and governmental affairs and interfaith relations. She partners with religious leaders, local and national coalition networks, law enforcement officials, elected state officials, legislators, regulators, state and federal agencies including the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security.

Sharan has worked over the years with Sikh advocacy organizations to address issues facing the Sikh community, organize events, develop training modules including some for TSA agents that is now implemented nationwide to respectfully handle Sikh articles of faith when Sikhs travel. Additionally, she collaborated with the Michigan State University of School of Journalism to publish a book entitled “100 Questions and Answers about Sikh Americans” where she wrote the foreword. In the Midwest, Sharan oversaw Camp Sikh Virsa, for over 9 years to help instill the Sikh Spirit amongst future generations. 

Sharan has been a member of the Sikh Religious Society of Chicago, and Illinois Sikh Community Center for many years. Some of her work with these Sikh organizations include her partnering with Sikh leaders, the Illinois Commission on Discrimination and Hate Crimes and other government agencies/partners to organize a listening session and discuss the types of hate and discrimination issues affecting the Illinois Sikh community. Sharan is also a board of trustee of the Parliament of the Worlds Religions and was integral in ensuring Sikhs were well represented in the programming for the 130th anniversary successful 2023 convening in Chicago. Additionally, Sharan is an executive member of the Council of Religious Leaders of Metropolitan Chicago, actively participates in the Training Community Advisory Committee for the Chicago Police, FBI Community Engagement Council in Chicago and is an alumnus of the FBI Citizens Academy Chicago Chapter. She is also a member of InfraGard Chicago. 

Sharan hails from Malaysia and has lived in the Chicagoland area since the late 1990s. She holds an MBA from Bowling Green State University, is happily married and is a proud mother to two teenage boys.
