Maj. Simratpal “Simmer” Singh became the Deputy Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Japan District in June 2025. Maj, Singh previously served as the Battalion Executive Officer for 317th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Johnson, Louisiana. He has honorably served the Engineer Regiment for 15 years. Originally from Kent, Washington, Maj. Singh graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2010 and was commissioned into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Maj. Singh was assigned as Assistant Brigade Engineer and Combat Engineer Platoon Leader in the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division. He deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as a Route Clearance Platoon Leader. During this deployment, Maj. Singh executed over 180 combat patrols to clear routes; completed base force protection and route engineering for Shah Wali Jot Province leading to the establishment of the first medical facility in the province to serve the local population; and lastly managed the responsible closure of two Army bases. Maj. Singh then served as 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division  Brigade Finance Officer. He prepared the unit’s yearly Command Budget Estimate based on the Commander’s priorities, and spearheaded efforts to allocate 15 million dollars  for the Brigade’s rotation to the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California, while overseeing financial support to over 20 enabler units attending the exercise. 

After completing the Engineer Captain’s Career Course, Maj. Singh was assigned to the 249th Engineer Battalion at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, where he served as the Assistant Operations Officer. In his role, Maj. Singh planned and executed 23 critical national defense deployment missions around the world resulting in the continuous supply of power and operation of national strategic level facilities; responded to three real-world natural disasters including Hurricane Matthew; and coordinated disaster response exercises with FEMA, Army Corps of Engineers HQs, and multiple State Emergency Officers. Maj. Singh subsequently served as Headquarters  Company Commander in the 249th Engineer Battalion where he provided disaster relief support during Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Maria. As Company Commander, he oversaw the maintenance, shipment, and operation of the Army’s only industrial-scale generators deployed throughout the world. 

Following Company Command, Maj. Singh earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Maryland Smith School of Business. He then served as an Instructor and Assistant Professor of Economics & Finance at the United States Military Academy West Point, New York. . While at West Point , Maj. Singh was the co-lead for Leadership, Ethics, and Diversity in STEM (LEADS) Conferences held throughout the country, published/co-published four papers/articles, and was the Officer In Charge  for Investment Club. Most recently, Maj. Singh completed the Command and General Staff College at Fort  Leavenworth, Kansas .
