Tejpaul Singh Bainiwal is a scholar, educator, and community leader specializing in Sikh American history and preservation. Tejpaul is the co-founder of the Sikh American History Project, which aims to unearth, preserve, and promote Sikh American History. Currently, he also serves as the Community and Education Specialist at Jakara Movement while on the board of the Pacific Coast Khalsa Diwan Society (Stockton Gurdwara Sahib) and the Asian and Pacific Islander Americans in Historic Preservation. 

Tejpaul’s academic contributions include his co-edited volume Sikhs in North America: History, Identity, and Resistance, forthcoming with Routledge, and his recent publication ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੰਖੇਪ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ – A Brief History of Sikhs in America (Punjabi), published by Khalis House Publishing. He has authored and contributed chapters to notable works on Sikhi, such as The Sikh World and The COVID Pandemic and the World’s Religions. His peer-reviewed journal articles address critical issues such as Sikh representation in museums, the role of social media during the Farmers’ Protest, and Sikh American activism.

In addition to his academic work, Tejpaul is an active curator of museum exhibits, including the Sikhs in America: Faith, Resilience, and Power exhibit, which has traveled to multiple locations, including Washington, DC and Seattle. His professional engagement extends to over 70 conference papers and invited talks across North America, where he discusses topics such as Sikh American history, religious identity, and social justice.

Tejpaul is also a key contributor to several preservation projects, including the designation of the San Joaquin Gurdwara on the Fresno County’s Register of Historic Places and the Hollywood Sikh Temple as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. He is an advisor for the Sikhs in the 21st Century project at the University of California Santa Cruz and has served as a reviewer for national preservation initiatives.
